The new crochet pattern this week comes with a crochet along! I'm honored to be included in Moogly's Crochet Along series, now in its 9th year.

On the right is my Garden Gables Square and on the left is Tamara's version with her 2023 color choices.

This was a fun challenge for me. I had never done a 12" square like this. I can understand the appeal of being able to make 24 squares for a blanket instead of 84. It just sounds less intimidating, right?

I've certainly made a lot of afghans made with squares, just not 12". 

On the left, is the Flower Throw, available for free on Yarnspirations. The one on the right, Pennsylvania Dutch Throw, is also free on Yarnspirations. I originally did both of these while working freelance for Caron Yarns.

Another afghan I made for Caron Yarns is the Christmas Granny (in the center) which was published in a Leisure Arts book called "Grannies Gone Wild". Although not free, the PDF download is only $2.99 if you want to check it out.

All of these squares, though, are 8-9". I found that I had to really push myself to continue going like I did with the 12" square. I've got plans to do more because you have all convinced me that 12-inch squares are the way to go.

Even if I don't make an afghan, they're big enough to cover a pillow form. What a fun way to try out new square patterns!
