I've been crocheting for a very long time. I learned when I was 8 years old and I'm now.... well, you get the idea. I'm just like any other crocheter in loving yarn. All yarn.

Going to a yarn shop is a luxury. Buying yarn from a yarn shop is double luxury. What happens is that I see a yarn I love but it's fairly expensive. What I end up doing is buying ONE. Just one. Just enough so I can take it home and love on it.

This happens at all yarn shops for me. I haven't gone to a yarn shop in over three years when I made a quick stop at our local yarn shop, Arkansas Yarn Co. 

I knew that one skein wasn't going to get me a big project, but it was enough for this One Skein Boucle Crochet Scarf.

This is what happened when I saw this Pearl yarn. The guarantee that it was coming home with me was the name of the colorway. Zombie in a Tutu! Yep, definitely coming home with me.

When working with a yarn like this, I decided not to use my winder. I felt like the slubs were going to get caught when trying to use a cake of yarn. I went straight old fashioned and my son Christian held the yarn while I wound it into a ball.

The other thing about trying to use every bit of a hank of yarn like this involves a postal scale. My postal scale is very important in my crochet designing since I use it to weigh yarn and projects to give you the yardage used.

For this project, I weighed the yarn to determine when I had reached the halfway point of the yarn (actually 45 grams) then I knew that I had enough to get to the opposite point and a little bit extra for trim.

If you're a designer, even if you don't design for the purpose of selling patterns, I absolutely recommend a postal scale.
